2025 marks 44 years since Denverites Mollie O’Brien and Rich Moore met and began playing music together. They were band mates in a blues band that started playing the bar circuit along the Colorado front range, and eventually became regulars in concerts and at festivals. In 2005, with both of their daughters grown and out of the house, they took the path of making music almost solely as a duo. In the years since, they’ve released sixteenrecordings with full bands, their family, as soloists and as a duo.
Their latest release, 2025’s Lost In The Crowd, perhaps truly showcases their talents as master interpreters of the American songbook. Once again, boundaries are blurred when a Gillian Welch/David Rawlings cover crosses over to the beautiful Elizabethan sonnet-like love song by Bob Lucas, My Love Is Like A Rose. Jazz tunes are turned inside out and become part of the folk music canon. And the Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham classic I’m Your Puppet is played and sung as an achingly pure love song.
This kind of symmetry and synchronization can only come with decades of working together and loving the same kind of music. These two are at the top of their game.
